Flood
Genesis
1 When people began to multiply on the earth and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they took wives for themselves, of whom they chose. 3 The Lord said, “My spirit will not always strive with man, for he is flesh; his days will be a hundred and twenty years.” 4 In those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them, the giants were on the earth, the men of glory who were of old. 5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 The Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7 The Lord said, “I will blot out from the face of the earth man whom I have created, both man and cattle, and the creeping things and the birds of the air; for I regret that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. 9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a righteous man, blameless among his people. Noah walked with God. 10 He had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 11 But the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God saw that the earth was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted his ways on the earth. 13 God said to Noah, “I have decided to put an end to all life, for the earth is filled with violence. I will destroy them with the earth. 14 Make an ark of gopher wood; make a room in the ark and cover it inside and out with pitch. 15 This is how you are to make it: the length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. 16 You shall make a roof of one cubit in the top of the ark. You shall set a door in the side of the ark; you shall make a lower, a middle, and an upper deck. 17 And I will bring the waters of a flood upon the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life. Everything that is on the earth shall die. 18 And I will establish my covenant with you; you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you shall go into the ark. 19 Of every living thing of every kind, you shall bring into the ark two by two, to keep them alive with you; male and female. 20 Of the birds, of the cattle, and of every creeping thing of the earth, two by two shall come in with you, according to their kinds, to keep them alive. 21 And you shall take to yourself of every food that is edible, and gather it to yourself; it shall be food for you and for them.” 22 Noah did everything just as God commanded him.
1 Then the Lord said to Noah, “Go into the ark with all your household, for I have seen that you are righteous before me in this generation. 2 Take with you seven pairs of every clean animal, male and female; and of every unclean animal, male and female. 3 And of the birds of the air, seven pairs, male and female, to keep their offspring alive on the face of the whole earth. 4 For in seven days I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights; and I will destroy every living thing that I have made from the face of the ground.” 5 Noah did everything the Lord commanded him. 6 Noah was six hundred years old when the waters of the flood came upon the earth. 7 Noah went into the ark with his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, because of the waters of the flood. 8 Of clean animals and of unclean animals, of birds and of everything that moves on the ground, 9 two by two went into the ark with Noah, male and female, as God had commanded him. 10 And after seven days the waters of the flood were upon the earth. 11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, all the fountains of the great deep burst forth, and the windows of heaven were opened. 12 And the rain fell upon the earth forty days and forty nights. 13 In the selfsame day entered Noah into the ark, and his sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and his wife, and the three wives of his sons with him. 14 They and all the animals, all the cattle, all the creeping things that creep on the ground, all the birds, all the birds of the air, and all the birds of the air, according to their kinds, 15 went into the ark to Noah, two by two of all flesh in which is the breath of life. 16 Of all flesh they went in, male and female, as God had commanded him. And the Lord shut the ark behind him. 17 And the flood was upon the earth forty days: and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lifted up above the earth. 18 And the waters increased exceedingly, and covered all the face of the earth; but the ark floated upon the face of the water. 19 And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the dry land, and covered all the high mountains under the open heaven. 20 And the waters were fifteen cubits above the mountains that they covered. 21 All living things that moved on the earth died—birds, livestock, wild animals, creeping things that move on the earth, and all mankind. 22 Everything in which was on dry land died. 23 God wiped out every living thing that was on the surface of the ground—man, livestock, creeping things, and birds of the air. They were all wiped from the earth. Only Noah and those with him in the ark remained. 24 The waters prevailed on the earth for a hundred and fifty days.
1 God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and all the livestock that were with him in the ark; God sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded. 2 The fountains of the great deep and the floodgates of the heavens were closed, and the rain from the sky was stopped. 3 The waters that were flowing and flowing were receding from the earth, and after a hundred and fifty days the waters were abated. 4 In the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark rested on the mountains of Ararat. 5 The waters receded and receded until the tenth month. On the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains appeared. 6 At the end of forty days Noah opened the window in the ark that he had made, 7 and he sent out a raven, which kept coming and going until the waters had dried up from the earth. 8 He also sent out a dove to see if the waters had receded from the earth. 9 But when she found no place to rest her foot, she returned to him into the ark. There was still water on all the face of the earth. He reached out his hand, took the dove, and brought her into the ark. 10 He waited another seven days and sent the dove out of the ark again. 11 In the evening she came back to him with a freshly plucked olive leaf in her beak. Noah knew that the waters had receded from the earth. 12 He waited another seven days and sent the dove out, but she did not return to him again. 13 In the six hundred and first year, in the first month, on the first day of the month, the waters had dried up from the earth. Noah opened the covering of the ark and looked out, and behold, the surface of the ground was dry. 14 In the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth was dry. 15 God spoke to Noah, saying, 16 “Go out of the ark, you and your wife, your sons and your wives with you. 17 Bring out every living thing that is with you: birds, livestock and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, so that they may move about on the earth and be fruitful and multiply on the earth.” 18 So Noah went out, and his sons, his wife, his wives with him, 19 every living thing, every creeping thing, every bird, everything that creeps on the earth, according to their kinds, went out of the ark. 20 Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar. 21 The Lord smelled a pleasing aroma, and he said, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the inclination of man’s heart is evil from his youth. Therefore I will never again destroy every living thing, as I have done. 22 While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”
1 God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. 2 The fear and dread of you will fall on every animal of the earth, on every bird of the air and on everything that moves on the earth. All the fish of the sea are under your control. 3 Every moving thing that lives will be food for you; I have given you everything, just as I gave you the green plants. 4 Only you must not eat meat with its life—its blood—for I will hold every living thing responsible for your blood. 5 For I will hold every living thing responsible for the life of every living thing, and I will hold every living thing responsible for the life of every living thing, even the life of every living thing. 6 Whoever sheds the blood of a human being, by his own blood shall his blood be shed, for in the image of God he made man. 7 But you, be fruitful and multiply; multiply on the earth and multiply on it.” 8 God said to Noah and his sons with him, 9 “I now establish my covenant with you and your descendants after you, 10 and with every living creature that is with you—the birds, the livestock, and every wild animal that is with you, everything that came out of the ark—every animal on earth. 11 I establish my covenant with you, that the waters of a flood will never again destroy all life, and there will never again be a flood to destroy the earth.” 12 God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I am making between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow is seen in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters will no longer become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will look at it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” 17 God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I am making between me and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” 18 The sons of Noah who went out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Ham was the father of Canaan. 19 These three were the sons of Noah, and from them the people spread over the whole earth. 20 Noah was the first farmer to plant a vineyard. 21 He drank wine and became drunk, and lay naked in his tent. 22 Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father naked and told his two brothers outside. 23 Shem and Japheth took a garment, laid it on both their shoulders, and walked backward, covering the nakedness of their father. They turned their faces away so that they would not see their father naked. 24 When Noah awoke from his wine and learned what his youngest son had done to him, 25 he said, “Cursed be Canaan; a slave of slaves shall you be to your brother!” 26 He added, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Shem! May Canaan be his slave! 27 May God enlarge Japheth and dwell in the tents of Shem! May Canaan be his slave!” 28 Noah lived three hundred and fifty years after the flood. 29 All the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years, and then he died.
