Work six days and rest on the seventh.

Keep the Sabbath day to keep it holy, as the Lord your God has commanded you. Six days you shall labor and do all your work. But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, your ox, your donkey, nor your other livestock, nor the stranger who is within your gates, that your manservant and your maidservant may rest as you do. Remember that you were a slave in Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.

Deuteronomy 5:12-15

God created us in his image. God works and then rests. God's command is to work six days and rest one day, when people should meet in peace and thank God for life. Anyone who does not work is called a thief or a parasite. Of course, there are children, the elderly, and disabled people who need help and cannot support themselves by working. God emphasizes helping the weak many times in the Bible.

If someone doesn't want to work, let them not eat!

2 Thessalonians 3:10

Let the thief steal no more, but rather let him work, earning something with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with the needy.

Ephesians 4:28

Regarding rest, God's commandment speaks of the Sabbath that God gave to the Jews. In addition to the Sabbath, God commanded the Jews to have periods of rest during the year - holidays, when Jews are not allowed to work, as well as foods that they can and cannot eat. For non-Jews, it is important to rest one of the seven days, even if it is not the Sabbath. Holidays are prophecies about events, some of which have already been fulfilled and some will still be fulfilled. The nation of Israel keeps these biblical holidays to this day. For example, the Jewish holiday of PASSOVER - a leap year, when the Jews were freed from slavery in Egypt and sacrificed a lamb so that the destroying angel who walked through Egypt would not kill them, but had to jump over their houses. They celebrate it every year and on this very day the Lamb - the Lord Jesus - was sacrificed, thus fulfilling the meaning of this holiday. Anyone who believes in His vicarious sacrifice for us and submits his life to Him will be saved from eternal damnation in hell. Regarding food, the Lord Jesus said that we can eat everything except the blood of animals. The foods prescribed for Jews are also for non-Jews a picture of what we take into our hearts with our eyes and ears.

16 Therefore let no one judge you in food and drink, or in respect of a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day. 17 These are a shadow of things to come, but the reality belongs to Christ.

Colossians 2:16-17

What goes into a man from outside cannot defile him? It does not enter his heart, but goes into his stomach and out into the sewer.” Thus he declared all foods clean. And he added: “What comes out of a man is what defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of men, come evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”

Mark 7:19-23

The seven-day week has its origins in the Bible in the context of creation.

The result of breaking God's laws is death - separation from God and suffering, but the gift - free and for all from God is forgiveness and eternal life by recognizing that He is Perfect and we are evil. By recognizing that we accept the help He offers us and asking for forgiveness for our crimes on the basis of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. After receiving forgiveness, we commit to obedience to the Creator by learning and respecting His laws in the new life He offers us.

In Israel, serious crimes were publicly tried by responsible people in society - judges, and people were publicly punished. This was to prevent the entire society of Israel from falling into rebellion and thus under God's judgment. God is Holy - Perfect and dwells in a huge fire of love. Everything in His presence is revealed and evil will burn in His fire.

For us, this means respect for the authorities in individual states, which are entrusted by God with this judgment and punishment. It is up to individual governments and subsequently judges to respect God's laws.

God does not want criminals to perish, but to enter into themselves, to correct themselves and to be able to live through the grace of God. The well-known story of the woman who was caught in adultery, they wanted to stone her according to God's law and brought her to Jesus. He said: "Let him who is without sin be the first to throw a stone." When she was left alone and everyone left, he said: "Has no one condemned you? Neither do I condemn you, go and sin no more." God presents himself to us as righteous, who rewards good and punishes evil, but is gracious to the broken. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. God did not abolish the law, he came to fulfill it through the Lord Jesus.

11 Say to them, ‘As I live,’ declares the Lord GOD, ‘I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways!

Ezekiel 33

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God's grace is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.
